Dwayne Bravo becomes the first West Indies player to take 200 T20 wickets

Dwayne Bravo became the first West Indies player to take 200 Twenty20 wickets when he dismissed St Lucia Zouks’ Tino Best while playing for Trindad and Tobago Red Steel in a Caribbean Premier League T20 match yesterday.

Bravo, who has played 205 matches in his T20 career, is 8th in the list of all-time highest wicket-takers, with Sri Lankan pace bowler Lasith Malinga topping the list having taken 264 wickets in 198 matches. Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard, who have taken 173 and 172 wickets in 134 and 240 matches, respectively, are the next two Caribbean players in the list.

The Trinidad and Tobago-born is one of the prolific shorter format players around with his unique ability to bowl at the death, something which even the specialist bowlers find it difficult. Capable of turning the match around with the bat, ball and in the field, Bravo continues to be a vital cog in the West Indian set-up and was recently appointed as the captain of the One Day International side at the expense of Sammy.

The 30-year-old pace bowling all-rounder picked up 3 wickets to help his team restrict Darren Sammy’s Zouks to a paltry 117.

The Red Steel batsmen, building on a 89-run second-wicket partnership between Evin Lewis (59 off 39) and Ross Taylor (35* off 39), made light work of the chase, completing it in 14.5 overs.

Red Steel, captained by Bravo, are now at the top of the table with 6 wins in 7 matches, Chris Gayle’s Tallawahs being a close second with 5 wins 7 matches.
