The Test started amidst many controversies but once Rahul Dravid rang the Lord’s bell, cricket took center stage leaving aside the off-field issues. Alastair Cook won the toss and decided to field first on a green pitch. James Anderson started off things giving a hint of outswing in his first over against Murali Vijay. Stuart Broad in his first delivery induced a nick off Shikhar Dhawan, but it was Anderson who removed Dhawan off a virtually unplayable delivery in the third over.

The right-arm seamer went past Fred Trueman’s 229 scalps and Sir Ian Botham’s 68 to accomplish the twin feats. The 31-year old with 65 wickets also went past Derek Underwood (62) as the England bowler with the most number of wickets against India. Alec Bedser’s 15 wickets vs India at Lord’s is also overhauled by his 18.
• 2 – Test hundreds for Ajinkya Rahane. Both have come away from home.
• 5 – Consecutive maidens bowled by Anderson from the start of play.
• 11 – Number of Tests lost by India at Lord’s out of 16 before. Won 1 and drawn 4.
• 81 – Liam Plunkett’s bowling average at Lord’s in 4 Test matches before today. It improved to 73 at Lunch with Vijay’s wicket.
• 235 – India’s highest first innings total (first innings of the match) at Lord’s in 6 matches before this Test. It was way back in 1952.
• 251 – Test wickets for Stuart Broad. He is the 8^th Englishman to cross the 250 mark.
• 1000 – Virat Kohli during his innings of 25 went past 1000 international runs against England across all three formats.
