Pakistan Twenty20 captain Shahid Afridi had a pleasant run in with a fan in New Zealand. A fan stepped in to pay Afridi’s meal when the McDonald’s refused to accept US dollars.

The incident took place when Afridi and teammate Ahmed Shehzad had gone to buy meals at a McDonald’s restaurant inside the Auckland airport on January 11. The Pakistan team is in New Zealand for a limited-overs series starting from January 15.

However, the players were carrying US dollars of local currency with them. But the restaurant did not accepted US dollars. Then Waqas Naveed, a Pakistan cricket team fan, stepped up and paid their bill.

Afridi told the reporters that he and Shehzad had forgotten to change their US dollars into New Zealand currency before going to the restaurant. He said, "There was this young man behind us in the line and he offered to pay for us insisting it was his way of welcoming us to New Zealand."

All though the 35 year old expressed his disappointment after the entire episode was recorded by someone in the restaurant and the media had been playing it.

The fan, Waqas said he paid the bill to welcome the players as he is a big fan of the Pakistan cricket team.

But for Afridi, this minor incident became another gaffe. He was embroiled in a spat with the media during the training camp in Lahore just before leaving for New Zealand.

Afridi was drawn into trouble after he had given a dismissive reply to a reporter. This converted into a controversy with the media protesting at the Gaddafi stadium and demanding an apology from the all-rounder.

Later the big-hitter worsen the matter by attending a function in Karachi on the eve of his team's departure. He said that The Karachi media loved him because his tongue is in check.

And after yesterday’s incident become another controversy among the Pakistani media, some of whom acused him of not carrying money, the cricketer tweeted
