First look of MS Dhoni's upcoming biopic revealed

A biopic on MS Dhoni’s rise from the small town of Ranchi is set to release in 2015

Clearing the rumours about MS Dhoni’s biopic being shelved, his wife Sakshi Dhoni revealed the first look of the upcoming Neeraj Pandey fim which will see actor Sushant Singh Rajput of Kai Po Che fame play the role of Indian skipper.

The news of a biopic being made on the 33-year-old first surfaced early this year, with sources claiming it’ll cover Dhoni’s journey as a cricketer from the small town of Ranchi to becoming the most successful Indian cricket team captain.

The film will also encompass Dhoni’s personal life, with leading actresses like Deepika Padukone and Shraddha Kapoor rumoured to play the role of his wife, though nothing is confirmed yet.

Since last month, there have been rumours that BCCI was averse to the idea of the biopic going on floor before Dhoni’s retirement, and that it has been put on hold. Furthermore, Dhoni was rumoured to have demanded a huge sum ranging from Rs. 40-45 crore, which had further complicated the matter for the filmmakers.

But now these rumours have been put to rest by the Indian cricket team and Chennai Super Kings skipper’s wife.

The film is being produced by Inspired Entertainment, a group company of Rhiti Sports, in which Dhoni has 15% stake.

Neeraj Pandey, the film’s director is best known for directing the thriller A Wednesday, which won him the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film.

This film follows the recent trend of sportspersons’ biopics in Bollywood, with Farhan Akhtar portraying the role of Milkha Singh in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Priyanka Chopra as Indian boxing star Mary Kom in the film Mary Kom.
