4 IPL records that were made in 2008 but are still unbroken

There is a popular quote that "Records are meant to be broken" but this has not been in the case in IPL the past eight years. There were a few records that were made in 2008 and even after the completion of eight successful editions, these records were untouched.

Let's have a look at these records:

#1 Most catches in an innings by a fielder

sachin tendulkar

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar is the proud owner of this record as in a match between Mumbai Indians and KKR, Tendulkar caught four batsmen viz. Salman Butt, Wriddhiman Saha, Ajit Agarkar and Shoaib Akhtar to create a record which is still unbroken. Though David Warner and Jacques Kallis also achieved this record later but Sachin was the first one to do the honours.

#2 Most extras in an innings

kolkata knight riders

In the fourth match of IPL, KKR locked horns with the visiting Deccan Chargers in their own den. Batting first, DC were bowled out for a score of 110.

It was an easy target to chase but DC bowlers made it look easier for KKR as the bowlers provided an outside unconditional support to the KKR by gifting 28 runs in the form of extras, 15 of them were wides. Extras constituted 25% of the runs scored by KKR. This record is too untouched and the teams will never try to go close to this record.

#3 Best bowling figures in an innings

sohail tanvir

The so-called weakest team of the first edition of IPL "Rajasthan Royals" surprised everyone by winning the maiden IPL title. The main strength of the team lied in the bowling department as the bowlers were the Key to success for them.

Surprisingly the Pakistani fast bowler Sohail Tanvir, who was also the purple cap holder in the inaugural edition in the match stood out for this team.

In a fiery spell aginst CSK in Jaipur, he grabbed six wickets giving away just 14 runs. That spell is still a record and still untouched. Though Adam zampa, the RPS leg spinner came quite close to the record just three days ago but could not break Tanvir's record. Zampa's match figures were 6/19.

Anil Kumble’s too came close to the record as he recorded the figures of 5/5 for RCB against Rajasthan Royals in 2009 but was deprived of one more wicket which kept him away from achieving the record.

#4 Lowest match aggregate – 135 runs

Last but not the least, there is another record which was achieved in the first edition of IPL as Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight riders were involved in a low-scoring match which produced lowest match aggregate ever in the history of IPL.

On May 16 2008, the Mumbai Indians bowled out the KKR on a mere score of 67 and then chased down the target in just 33 balls. 135, that was the total of runs scored in the match which is still a record and is yet to be broken.

The record is untouched even though the record of the lowest total is held by Rajasthan Royals which they achieved against RCB in Cape Town in the second edition of IPL.
