In a scathing attack on BCCI president N Srinivasan, Former BCCI president Shashank Manohar has criticized Srinivasan for the mess the BCCI finds itself in.

“Srinivasan has no right to continue as president,” said Manohar. “If you had the slightest of conscience, self-esteem and care for the board, you ought to have put in your papers the moment your son-in-law was arrested. You did nothing and as a result the board’s reputation has taken a hit to the extent that the people have lost faith in this board.”

Manohar also stated that members of the board had requested him to contest the elections.

“Many people, including Mr [Jagmohan] Dalmiya, requested me to come back and contest,”

“I left the board two years back and I have not entered its premises again. I have no intention to come back. I said if all the members want me, I will not shirk the responsibility. This board has given me a lot and I was willing to give something back.”

Manohar, who has always been an honest and well respected member at the BCCI, also went on to say that a lot of evidence exists that prove Meiyappan’s link to the Chennai Super Kings.

“There is a lot of evidence of Meiyappan being the team principal. The truth will come out. I don’t have to state this. It is a fact. He has been charge-sheeted and the law will take its own course, but the evidence is very much there,”

“He does not want to clean this mess. If my son was in Srinivasan’s position, I would have asked him to resign. Srinivasan is an autocrat and wants all the power for himself.

And in Sunday’s BCCI AGM, which Srinivasan chaired, Manohar condemned him for filing an affidavit in the Bombay High Court, with Srinivasan trying to seek relief from cases pertaining to his term as BCCI chief.

“Till today I’ve kept myself away from the board,” said Manohar. “But my silence should not be taken as a weakness. I’ve committed no wrong. I have a clean image and nobody doubts my integrity. I only went to the court because some board members, particularly Srinivasan, did not act as per the collective decisions of the working committee.”
