Out-of-favour Indian opening batsman Gautam Gambhir will lead the 15-member Delhi side in the North Zone league of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the national T20 tournament, starting on March 28, 2014.

Indian opener Virender Sehwag has also been included in the squad despite his poor form with the bat in recent times. The Delhi squad looks strong with the likes of Ishant Sharma, Unmukt Chand, Ashish Nehra, Mithun Manhas, Rajat Bhatia and Parwinder Awana among others. The selection committee meeting of Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) was attended by its chairman Chetan Chauhan, Anil Jain, Hari Gidwani, N P Singh, Varun Kumar, chief coach Sanjeev Sharma and convenor-cum-selector Sunil Dev.

Delhi will open their campaign against Himachal Pradesh on April 1, 2014. Gambhir and Sehwag haven’t done anything of note in their time out from the national team, and they will be looking forward to making a mark in the tournament with the Indian Premier League scheduled to begin on April 16 in the United Arab Emirates.
