Geoffrey Boycott surprised by India's persistence with Duncan Fletcher

England cricketing great Geoffrey Boycott is puzzled with the fact that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) still continues to stick with Duncan Fletcher despite the team’s hopeless batting performances in the recently concluded Investec Test series in England, which the visitors lost 1-3.

Fletcher was given the charge of the national team after the World Cup victory in 2011 keeping in mind that the transition period could follow soon. As expected, it did, with the likes of Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar calling it a day one by one, but the results have been nothing to write home about.

The 65-year-old is renowned for his ability to fine tune batting techniques, but the Indian younger lot continue to fail in testing conditions, with no visible improvements.

“Why is India persisting with him? He is supposed to be the batting expert and India fared miserably in batting,” Boycott said.

Virat Kohli suffered the most of all Indian batsmen averaging just 13.40 from 10 innings. The 25-year-old continued to have problems with the corridor of uncertainty and even found himself uncomfortable facing a part-time spinner in Moeen Ali.

“A player like Virat Kohli failed in 10 innings. What did Fletcher do? I am really surprised that he is still around," he further added.
