The 15th match of the VIVO IPL 2016 will see the only unbeaten team in the tournament so far, the Gujarat Lions, hosting an unpredictable Sunrisers Hyderabad who only managed their first win in their last encounter against the Mumbai Indians. The debutant team from Rajkot could not have asked for a better start to the tournament, sprinting to a win in their opener against Kings XI Punjab and then easing past the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led fellow debutants, Rising Pune Supergiants. They held their nerves to snatch a win against the Mumbai Indians in their third match. It is a different tale for the team from Hyderabad, however, as they lost their first two matches against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Kolkata Knight Riders. Their maiden victory against Mumbai was comprehensive and gave them a much-needed confidence boost.

The Gujarat Lions have much to thank Aaron Finch for, as the hard-hitting Victorian from down under has scored a half-ton in all the three matches, amassing a total of 191 runs already. Fellow opener, the power-hitting Kiwi Brendon McCullum, has been nowhere near his destructive best, managing double figures in just one match when he scored 49 against the Supergiants.

Captain Suresh Raina has managed handy cameos in all the three matches but the southpaw is yet to capitalize on his good starts. The good news for the Lions is the return of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who missed the previous match as he was attending his wedding.

In their bowling department, Dwayne Bravo has been in the thick of things, picking up six wickets already. The last year’s purple cap winner seems to have picked off from where he left. He is yet to shine with his bat, though. Praveen Kumar has not picked up a wicket in the tournament but has been fairly economical. Faulkner has been rather expensive, but the addition of Jadeja will add that extra bit of depth in their spinning department.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad have been overtly dependent on skipper David Warner, who with two sublime innings, including a match-winning unbeaten 90 against Mumbai in their last match, is looking like a lone warrior up front. Eoin Morgan has shown flashes of brilliance, scoring a useful 51 against the Knight Riders, but has not really lived up to his potential. It has been a disastrous start to the tournament for Warner’s opening partner Shikhar Dhawan, who with scores of 8, 6 and 2 in his three matches is a real sign of worry in the batting department.

Deepak Hooda potentially has a lot to offer as his cameo in the last match showed as has Moises Henriques. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Barinder Sran and Mustafizur Rahman are spearheading the pace department in the absence of an injured Ashish Nehra and have picked up a handful of wickets among them. Their spinners Karn Sharma and Bipul Sharma have both been pretty expensive.
