Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell, who has lately been a phenomenal in the limited overs format, is all set to play for Hampshire in this season’s Natwest T20 Blast. There are possibilities that Maxwell might show up in other formats as well, depending on the availability of South African overseas bowler Kyle Abbott .

The 25-year-old big hitter was first signed by Hampshire in 2012 and his impressive form led to a call up to the Australian team.

Hampshire’s Director of Cricket Giles White said: "Maxi is an extremely popular figure here, both amongst the playing group and with the supporters. His all-round qualities make him a great fit in what is shaping up to be an exciting T20 squad."

Glenn Maxwell was also thrilled by the opportunity to play for Hampshire again.

"It's been a pretty incredible two years, When I first arrived at Hampshire my career was in limbo. I wasn't in great nick with my domestic cricket but my first stint with Hampshire probably turned my career around, which is amazing, and it eventually got me playing for Australia. The only reason I got picked was because of my County form here and the opportunity Hampshire gave me when no other team would. It was nice they took me on. I owe Hampshire a lot and hopefully I can repay them this summer,” Maxwell told BBC Radio Solent.

"I've made a lot of close friends from the Hampshire squad and management and I look forward to being part of another successful season with them," Maxwell continued.

The Aussie is also looking forward to confirming his place in all formats of the game for Australia. He said: "Cricket Australia are massively keen for me to keep pushing for that Test spot as an allrounder, the more red-ball cricket I play, the better the chance, and hopefully Hampshire can give me that opportunity."
