Goudie and Taylor bowl Scotland to victory at the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013

ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier - Nepal v Kenya

Scotland’s Gordon Goudie and Rob Taylor shared six wickets between them to bowl Scotland to a comfortable 84 runs victory over Papua New Guinea (PNG) on day seven of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier UAE 2013 (WT20Q) at the ICC Academy Oval 1 in Dubai on Thursday.

In other Group B matches in Dubai, Afghanistan defeated Denmark by two wickets and Kenya outclassed Bermuda by seven wickets. Rain had the last laugh in the Group A matches in Abu Dhabi between Ireland and Italy, and Uganda and USA, which were both abandoned without a ball being bowled.

At the ICC Academy Oval 1 in Dubai, a 100-run first-wicket stand between Richie Berrington (43) and Calum McLeod (58) saw Scotland post a formidable total of 181 for five. Matt Machan was the other notable contributor with 44 from 25 deliveries, including two fours and as many sixes.

In its run-chase, PNG was punished by fast bowlers Goudie and Taylor, who demolished the middle-order to restrict the side to 97 for nine. Goudie bagged three for 15 and Taylor returned figures of three for 16.

At ICC Academy Oval 2, Steve Tikolo claimed two wickets to help Kenya contain Bermuda to 124 for seven wickets in a match that was reduced to 18 overs per side. He then returned to the crease with the bat and scored an unbeaten 54 in a man of the match performance as Kenya achieved victory with more than six overs to spare.

Nehemia Odhiambo (28 from 17 balls) and captain Collins Obuya (31 from 18 balls) ensured Kenya collected its third victory without any hiccups.

Earlier in the day, Afghanistan defeated Denmark by two wickets at the ICC Academy Oval 2. Denmark, chasing its first victory of the tournament, scored 145 for three after being sent into bat with Yasir Iqbal (35) and Carsten Pedersen (36) putting on 67 runs for the first wicket.

Afghanistan’s response started terribly when it lost three wickets in the first three overs, including the prized scalp of Mohammad Shahzad (10), who fell to Bashir Shah.

However, Najibullah Zadran steadied Afghanistan’s run chas, with a rapid 34-ball 61, while captain Mohammad Nabi contributed 25 from 11 balls and Samiullah Shenwari chipped in with 21 from 16 deliveries to see Afghanistan reach victory in 15.3 overs.
