Harbhajan Singh: Greg Chappell was a double-faced man

Sachin Tendulkar’s startling revelation about the Greg Chappell regime with the Indian cricket team in his autobiography Playing it My Way has found many voices of approval from several quarters. One among those is senior Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh.

The 34-year-old minced no words while talking about the turbulent times the team and he went through during the Chappell era, adding that the former Australian captain wanted to create rifts in the team, by developing misunderstandings within the group.

"He had spoiled the atmosphere, implement a 'divide and rule policy'. He would instigate fights between us so that he would be able to do what he wanted. He would trigger misunderstanding between us by telling us 'this player was saying this against you', when in fact, that player wouldn't have said anything," Harbhajan told Times of India.

Harbhajan, who hasn't played for India since the 4-0 whitewash against Australia in early 2013 at home, also added that Chappell would say something to the players, but talk something totally different, when interacting with the media.

"He hated it if we asked him questions. He would say something to us, and then say something entirely different to the media. He was a double-faced man. What Sachin has written about him is absolutely true,” he added.
