Harbhajan Singh wants to retire at the Eden Gardens

Indian cricket team's spinner Harbhajan Singh said that he would like to retire at the famous Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata, reports Tehelka. Even though he dismissed any retirement talks, he has shown his interest in playing his last Test at the famous Kolkata’s venue.

“I have not planned anything, but yes, whenever I would think, I would like to play my last game at the Eden. But that has got to be in a Test,” Harbhajan said.

Eden has always been special for many Indian players and the team itself. Harbhajan made history as India defeated Australia in the famous 2001 Border-Gavaskar second Test in Kolkata, he became the first Indian bowler to scalp a Test hat-trick.

Bhajji picked 13 Australian wickets in that match where VVS Laxman also made his mark by becoming India’s highest Test scorer after his prolific 281 runs innings which brought the team out of trouble.

Speaking about the Eden, Harbhajan said that it has always been a special ground and he likes playing there.

“Eden is a very very special place. Playing cricket in Eden is always special. This is like coming home and playing cricket. If people say cricket in England is at Lord’s, then in India for me this is the best place to play cricket. I have got some great memories playing here and hopefully I can continue to do well here.”

He spoke about the sad demise of the late Board of Control for Cricket in India President Jagmohan Dalmiya: “One thing we will be missing is Jagmohan Dalmiya sir. He won’t be watching the game, but I am sure he will be blessing us from somewhere.”

India lost the final three-match Twenty20 international series against South Africa by 2-0 after the Kolkata washout. Rohit headed the series batting charts with 128 runs at 64, and R Ashwin was the best bowler across two sides with four wickets.

The 35-year-old played in the second match at Cuttack but went wicket-less in his four overs spell. He has represented Indian team in 104 Tests and 232 one-day internationals, where he has picked 417 and 263 wickets respectively.

The teams now head to Kanpur for the second leg of the Mahatma Gandhi-Nelson Mandela series for the first of five One-Day Internationals on October 11.
