Ricky Ponting scored 18 runs in his last series, taking 5 matches to reach that number

Ricky Ponting has revealed in his autobiography his anger at being dropped in the middle of an ODI series in 2012.

Ponting played his last ODI in the CB series, also including India and Sri Lanka. After the 7th match of the series against India, he was dropped from the ODI squad for good.

In the 5 matches he played in that series, his scores were – 2, 1, 6, 2, 7.

In his autobiography, At the close of play reveals how he felt on not getting a chance to retire from ODIs on his own terms.

“Inside, I was seething. Not for the first time in my career I had to keep a lid on what I was really thinking,” Ponting says in the book.

Ponting played 375 ODIs for Australia, more than any other cricketer from Down Under.

“These blokes had been appointed as the result of the Argus Review, a document that stressed the need for better communication between players and selectors. John Inverarity’s new selection committee never gave me the chance to retire from ODI cricket, which – after 375 games, 50 more than any other Australian – I think I deserved,” he said about him being dropped from the side.

Ponting retired from the game later that year after the Test series against South Africa at home.
