ICC T20 WC 2016: South Africa vs. West Indies - Where to watch live, prediction, preview, match time and date, squads and live streaming information

SA vs WI
South Africa and West Indies during one of their previous encounters

The Proteas are set to take on their Caribbean counterparts at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Friday. The Group 1 encounter between the two sides is going to be a crucial one for the South Africans as they are poised at the number three position on the table with a couple of points in their kitty.

West Indies, however, have gone on to stamp their authority over England and Sri Lanka and currently sit pretty on the top of the table. With a match against Afghanistan left, it is kind of safe to say that the Caribbean side has virtually qualified for the last four stage of the ICC tournament.

As it has already been seen during the inaugural match of the ICC T20 World Cup, today’s match at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur should be dominated by the spinners. It would be interesting to see how the both set of players handle themselves to counter their opposition spinners.

Team News:

South Africa Team:

The South Africans have had an exceptional tournament with the bat as far as this year’s ICC T20 World Cup is concerned. They have scored over 200+ runs in both their matches against England and Afghanistan.

However, it is safe to say that their bowling has let them down in the couple of matches that they have played. Not only the English side managed to chase down a target of 230 runs with a couple of balls to spare but even the minnows Afghans had put on 172 runs against this South African bowling line-up.

JP Duminy has been ruled out of the crucial West Indies match due to a hamstring strain. It is surely a big blow for the Proteas as they are not only going to feel the absence of the ‘batsman Duminy’ but on a turning Nagpur track the ‘off-spinner Duminy’ would also be dearly missed. The 32-year-old left arm orthodox spinner Aaron Phangiso is likely to take Duminy’s place for today’s game.

West Indies Team:

The island nation will be looking to seal their semi-final berth at Nagpur with a group stage match against Afghanistan to spare.

The Trinidadian right-arm leg-spinner Samuel Badree is likely to play a crucial role in today’s match against South Africa. West Indies is likely to field an unchanged side with Chris Gayle set to open the batting for his team after the debacle against Sri Lanka.

Teams (Predicted XI):

South Africa:

Quinton de Kock (Wk), Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis (C), AB de Villiers, David Miller, Rilee Rossouw, Aaron Phangiso, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Dale Steyn, Imran Tahir.

West Indies:

Johnson Charles, Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin (Wk), Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Darren Sammy (C), Jason Holder, Samuel Badree, Sulieman Benn.

Recent Form:

South Africa: W-L-L-L-W

West Indies: L-L-W-W-W

Key Stats:

  1. South Africa has won six out of the nine matches that they have played against West Indies. That is a success rate of 66.66%.
  2. The Proteas have won both of their matches against the Caribbean side in the ICC T20 World Cup. They had beaten West Indies by 8 wickets and 20 runs respectively during the first two editions of the tournament.
  3. South African bowlers had been quite successful against the West Indies batting line-up previously. Both of their 5 wicket hauls have come against the Caribbean side. Ryan McLaren and David Wiese ended up with 5 for 19 and 5 for 23 back in 2010 and 2015 respectively.
