India may co-host IPL 7 with UAE, Bangladesh; South Africa ruled out as hosts

Most of the IPL matches will be played in India.

Indian Premier League chairman Ranjib Biswal has revealed that 60 to 70 percent of the tournament’s matches will be played in India after the general election dates were finalised Wednesday morning.

“Now that the elections dates have been finalised, we are working towards hosting bulk of the matches in India,” said Biswal. “Since it is the Indian Premier League we need to accommodate as many matches in India.”

The decision was taken after a detailed discussion between the BCCI members which included president N. Srinivasan, senior vice-president Rajeev Shukla, secretary Sanjay Patel and IPL CEO Sundar Raman.

“Today, we discussed about foreign venues but we haven’t decided yet as we need couple of days more to finalise the offshore venue,” Biswal added.

The Indian General Elections will be held from April 7 to May 12, and the counting will be wrapped up by May 16.

“After May 16, IPL 7 matches will be held in India. But South Africa as an alternate venue has effectively been ruled out since South Africa wanted to host the entire tournament,” a source confirmed.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bangladesh could be the other countries to co-host the seventh edition of this T20 event.
