The 5th ODI between Indian and Australia in Cuttack has been officially cancelled due to unplayable conditions at the Barabati stadium after days of continuous rains.

An inspection by the umpires was scheduled for this afternoon, and the decision to call off the match has been taken after reviewing the conditions on the ground today.

BCCI confirmed the decision on Twitter:

Since last 4-5 days, Cuttack has been witnessing regular showers and the chances of this match happening were extremely low.

Yesterday, even the official press release from the Odisha Cricket Association sounded very hopeless in regard to the match taking place.

“We deeply regret to mention that the sunny weather that we have been expecting has failed to come true. The ground is completely water-logged and the chances of its drying up are extremely remote,” the press release said yesterday.

After Ranchi, the second wash-out of the series leaves India trailing 1-2 in the series, and they need to win both the upcoming matches, in Nagpur and Bangalore to win the series.

Here are the images of the ground how it was yesterday:

Surprisingly, rains couldn’t keep away the fans who came to buy the tickets anyway.
