India vs New Zealand
New Zealand were completely outplayed by India in the series

Martin Guptill 5/10

Just like his Mumbai Indians teammate Rohit Sharma, Martin Guptill came into the series under a lot of pressure, with his Test future on the line. But, Guptill failed to set the tournament on fire as he struggled against the Indian bowlers throughout the tournament, barring one innings. He finished the tour with 159 runs at an average of 31.80.

Tom Latham 7.5/10

Tom Latham was the only visiting batsman who looked comfortable against the Indian bowlers. Latham scored a fifty in all three Tests and ended up getting 194 runs in six innings at an average of 32.33 in the series.

Kane Williamson 6/10

A lot was expected from Kane Williamson from this series and the New Zealand skipper started well before he was outclassed by R Ashwin every time he came out to bat. The Kiwi skipper managed to get only 135 runs in 4 innings, numbers that are below par by his standards.

Ross Taylor 4/10

Ross Taylor had no clue on what he was doing in the series as he was completely dominated by the Indians (barring the final innings in which he scored a 25-ball 32) throughout. The team management would have expected Taylor to do well but the right-hander managed to score only 89 runs in 6 innings at an average of just below 15.

Luke Ronchi 6/10

Luke Ronchi might have sealed his place in the New Zealand middle order after a decent series against India. He was not troubled by the Indian spinners on most occasions and stayed at the crease for a long time in both the innings of the first Test and scored 80 in the second innings when the visitors were trying to save the Test. He finished the series with 200 runs in 6 innings at an average of 33.33.

Mitchell Santner 7.5/10

Mitchell Santner is yet another find of the series for New Zealand as the all-rounder played his heart out throughout the three Tests. Santner impressed with both bat and ball scoring 159 runs at an average of 26.50 apart from picking up 10 wickets. With age on his side, the left-hander has a bright future ahead.

BJ Watling 5.5/10

BJ Watling is yet another big name that failed to turn up for the Kiwis in the tour. Watling is one of New Zealand’s better Test batsmen but he failed to turn up in the series. He managed to score just 101 runs in the series at an average of 20.20.

Jeetan Patel 5.5/10

Jeetan Patel was not a part of the original squad that was announced to tour India but an injury to Mark Craig meant that Patel was asked to fly to India after having a successful county season. He failed to replicate his county success for his country as he picked up just 6 wickets in 4 innings at an average of 49.

Trent Boult 6/10

Trent Boult is the most successful New Zealand bowler in the series as he took 10 wickets in the series at an average of 33.30. It was very evident that Boult was missing his fellow pacer Tim Southee, but nonetheless, it was a great learning experience for the left-arm quick.

Matt Henry 5.5/10

Matt Henry might be unlucky not to have picked more wickets in the series. Henry came in as a replacement for Tim Southee and bowled his heart out in the two matches he played. He ended the series with 6 wickets at an average of 43.

Mitchell Santner
Santner bowled and batted well for New Zealand

Neil Wagner 4/10

There were some reports that Neil Wagner lost 5 kgs of weight on day 1 of the second Test at Kolkata. This was evidence of the effort he put in during the matches but unfortunately for him, he managed to pick only 5 wickets in the series.

Ish Sodhi N/A

Ish Sodhi played the first match of the series and was smashed all around the ground by the Indian batsmen. He took 3 wickets in the match.

Henry Nicholls N/A

Nicholls was expected to bat in the middle-order in the series but Luke Ronchi’s 100 in the warm-up game against Mumbai saw the right-hander getting a place ahead of Nicholls. Nicholls played the second Test in place of Kane Williamson and scored 25 runs in the Test.

Mark Craig N/A

Mark Craig was unfortunate to leave the team after the first Test due to a side strain. He played the first match of the series and picked up 2 wickets.
