India vs West Indies 2013: "It will be a slow turner with some bounce." - Sudhir Naik, Wankhede curator

After the 1st Test match between India and West Indies ended in just three days at Eden Gardens, the curiosity of how the Wankhede pitch would behave has increased by manifolds.

The Eden Gardens tracked behaved like a typical Indian track that had dual bounce and created quite a few problems for the batsmen. If the West Indies couldn’t handle the seam of Md. Shami and the spin of R. Ashwin, the Indian top order was taken care of by the West Indies spinner Shane Shillingford.

The Mumbai track for Sachin Tendulkar‘s 200th Test is expected to be a typical Indian slow turning pitch. According to the curator Sudhir Naik, “It will not be a square turner like the one against England last year but will resemble the one against the West Indies of 2011, a slow turner with some bounce.”

The Wankhede track has a history of providing assistance to the spinners and the last time in November, 2011, India were reeling at 242 for 9 while chasing a target of 243 to complete a clean sweep against the West Indies.

The man of the match of that game, R. Ashwin, criticised the pitch for its slowness and lack of bounce.
