India vs West Indies 2016, 2nd T20I Stats: Jasprit Bumrah breaks T20I world record

West Indies claimed the two-match T20I series against India 1-0 after the second T20I was called off due to rain. After winning the toss, India put West Indies in to bat and bowled them out for 143. But two overs into India’s response, the rain started and the game was eventually abandoned.

After being hammered all over the park in the first game, Indian bowlers bounced back strongly. Led by the incoming Amit Mishra and Ravichandran Ashwin, they took wickets at regular intervals and ensured that the batsmen never got away.

In the end that was the difference as they were bowled out for 143 and Mishra capped off his T20I comeback with three wickets while Ashwin, Bumrah and Sami all finished with two wickets in each.

In response, India were 15/0 in two overs when the rain came down, still needing 129 to win. But the rain did not relent and the delay in the start cost India dear as the match was called off and West Indies ended up winning the series.

Here are some interesting numbers from the game:

0 – No bowler has taken more T20I wickets in a calendar year than Jasprit Bumrah. The Indian fast bowler has 28 T20I wickets this year, which beats Dirk Nannes’ record of 27 wickets for Australia in 2010.

1 – Lendl Simmons was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin for the fifth time in T20s, which is the most the off-spinner has dismissed any batsman. The only other batsman he has dismissed 5 times is AB de Villiers.

2 – Only two batsmen, Aaron Finch (165) and David Warner (113) have scored more runs against India in T20I powerplays than Johnson Charles, who has 110 runs.

3 – This was the third time that four Indian bowlers have taken two or more wickets for India in a T20I. All three times have happened in 2016, before that it had never happened in the history of the format.

3/24 – Amit Mishra’s figures of 3/24 on his T20I comeback is now his best figures in T20I beating his previous best of 3/26 against Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2014.

5 – In his last 5 T20s before this, Johnson Charles had registered a opening partnership of at least fifty. One of them have been with Evin Lewis while the other four were with Andre Fletcher. With Lewis, it was 126 in the last match while it was stands of 62, 104, 89 & 60 with Fletcher.

28 – Jasprit Bumrah has 28 T20I wickets in 2016, which is the most by any bowler in the calendar year. In second place is Ashwin, who has 23 T20I wickets.

52 – Ashwin has 52 T20I wickets to his name, which is the most for any Indian bowler but his two wickets today moved him into 11^th place on the list of most wickets in T20Is. He needs four more wickets to make it into the top ten.

55 – Bumrah has taken 55 wickets in T20s in 2016. Only Andre Russell (68) and Dwayne Bravo (63) have taken more T20 wickets this year.

143 – This is West Indies’ second-lowest T20I total against India. Their lowest is 129/7 at Mirpur in the 2014 World T20.

200 – Ravichandran Ashwin became the first Indian bowler to take 200 T20 wickets. Second on that list is his teammate Amit Mishra who currently sits on 199 wickets in the format.
