Indian Premier League announces the name of players released and retained by the teams

Indian Premier League (IPL) has released the players retention list along with the list of players released for the 2016 version. The released players will be available in the auction which is set to take place on 6 February 2016 in Bengaluru with Pune and Rajkot being the new teams in the fray after the suspension of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.

Notably, Yuvraj Singh, Dale Steyn, Virender Sehwag (retired), Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Karthik, Aaron Finch and Darren Sammy have all been released by their respective teams and will be the prime picks in the IPL auction.

The players who have been retained by their franchise includes the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Manan Vohra, Rishi Dhawan, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya and Sarfaraz Khan among others.

The more obvious names of AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, David Warner, Corey Anderson, Andre Russell, Glenn Maxwell, David Miller can also be seen in the retained list.

The maximum number of players have been retained by the champions Mumbai Indians, who have retained a total of 19 players. Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad have chosen to hold on to 15 players and Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained 14 players each.

The draft for the two teams from Rajkot and Pune was picked back on December 15, with Suresh Raina, R Jadeja, Brendon McCullum, James Faulkner and Dwayne Bravo part of the Rajkot team while MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, R Ashwin, Steve Smith and Faf du Plessis were picked for the Pune team. The rest of the former CSK and RR players will be bought in the auction.

RCB have released the maximum number of players with a total of 14 releases, KKR, DD and MI have released 10 players each, whereas, SRH have let go of nine players and DD eight.
