India's Zimbabwe tour in broadcasting trouble

Zimbabwe players celebrate during the ODI series against Pakistan

The issue between television broadcasters and the Zimbabwe Cricket Board(ZCB) has put India’s 3 ODI and 2 Twenty20 tour in trouble. Earlier this month Zimbabwe Cricket (ZCB) had confirmed that India will tour Zimbabwe next month after their Bangladesh series.

ZCB informed Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about their inadequateness to solve their matter of contention with Ten Sports, who own the broadcasting rights for the home series in Zimbabwe.

BCCI has a problematic relation with Ten Sports, who are owned by Essel Group. The main reason behind this is the breakaway cricket league, the ICL, which was also initiated by the same Essel Group. The relation between BCCI Chief Jagmohan Dalmiya and Essel Group owner Subhash Chandra is another reason behind the problem. BCCI has given some time to ZCB to settle the issue as early as possible.

The Indian cricket board is also facing problems of obtaining Zimbabwean visas for the team members.

Team India is scheduled to tour Zimbabwe to play 3 ODIs and 2 Twenty20s next month. The host country has played only 11 ODIs and 1 Test on home soil in the last 18 months.
