IPL 2014 Auctions: Five uncapped Indian players to watch out for

Manu

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked all the state associations to submit the names of their uncapped players, by January 24, to be included in the forthcoming Indian Premier League auction, which will take place on February 12-13.

The uncapped players get to choose from three options regarding their base price. The minimum base price has been fixed at Rs 10 lakh, while the other two options are Rs 20 lakh and Rs 30 lakh.

Once the state associations submit the list of their respective uncapped players, the BCCI will forward the same to the eight teams owners. If even one team shows interest in buying an uncapped player in the auction, he will go under the hammer.

So, lets take a look at some of the players who are in demand for this year’s auctions.

Kedhar Jadhav

Kedar Jadhav

This Maharashtra batsman has been instrumental in his state team’s success this Ranji season, and has the numbers to his credit. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see teams vying for this prolific batsman. A hard hitting batsman, he has the potential to make it big, given the right platform and team structure. This 28-year-old has the right temperament to play the game according to the situation as well.

With an average of above 50s in List A and First Class games, this diminutive Maharashtrian has the numbers going right for him. With a tally of just 4 centuries coming in to this season, Jadhav has thrived on the opportunities provided to him, and has taken his tally to 9, including a double hundred against Hyderabad.

He is no stranger to the IPL, where he came to limelight with a blistering 29-ball 50 on his debut for the Delhi Daredevils. Since then he hasn’t performed consistently, which has led to him warming the benches. He could be the potential dark horse in the scheme of things this season.

Ishwar Pandey

Ishwar Pandey

Even though he has been selected for the ongoing NZ tour, Ishwar Pandey will still feature in the uncapped players list, in accordance with the IPL policy; where players have to don the Indian cap in the year 2013 to be categorized as ‘capped’ .This lanky pacer from Madhya Pradesh has garnered enough attention in the batsman dominated domestic pitches of India, and could be in for some fierce rounds at the auctions this February. His selection to the Indian camp adds the much needed glamour to his case. All the teams would be vying for this fast bowler, who has had a terrific few seasons with Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji circuit.

Vijay Zol

Vijay Zol

He seems to be in terrific form with the India U-19 team; leading them to victory in the recently concluded Asia Cup. The cricketing fraternity is looking forward to watch him defend the U19 WC this February in the Middle East. He has also been instrumental in Maharashtra’s success this season. The top-order batsman will be looking to join his deputy in the U19 team, Sanju Samson; who has already created waves in the IPL with Rajasthan Royals. Watch out for this young man’s name at the auction, I bet there will be a lot of drama involved.

Unmukt Chand

Unmukt Chand

Even though this former U19 World Cup winning captain failed to rake up runs last season, he wouldn’t be sold off cheaply this time around. After failing with the bat last season amidst a lot of attention, Unmukt would be looking to make a strong case. Not just him, the whole of India waits for this talent to come off age.

It’s surprising that Delhi Daredevils let him go without looking to retain him. Only time will tell how costly that mistake was for the Daredevils. He has this liking for the big match situations; scoring big in the knockout stages of every major U-19 tournaments he has been a part of, so far.

Parvez Razool

Parvez Rasool

He led the Jammu & Kashmir team into the quarter-finals of the Ranji Trophy for the first time in their history, in this season. In the Round Robin stages, he scored 560 runs and picked up 21 wickets, and has quite literally carried J&K into the knockouts on his own shoulders. Rasool’s consistent efforts won him a call-up to the India squad for the tour to Zimbabwe last year, but he didn’t make the playing 11. Teams must have already started discussion on how much they can push themselves to bag him this year.
