Mumbai ended up with 7 wins and 7 losses from their 14 games

This time, they were not so lucky. Mumbai Indians have an uncanny ability to make great comebacks from the worst of situations. However, it seems that this season wasn’t going to become witness to another comeback of sorts.

Ending up with 7 wins and 7 losses from their 14 games, their tally of 14 points led to them narrowly missing out on the play-offs.

However, there were plenty of bright spots for the IPL franchise from Mumbai this season. Let's take a look at their top 5 players this IPL:

Rohit Sharma

He was by far their best batsman. He might have had a lot of critics—and he still does—but that doesn’t change the fact that he is an entirely different kind of beast in the IPL.

Rohit has always been a consistent performer in the IPL for the Mumbai Indians. And this season was no different. With 489 runs in only 14 games, he is Mumbai Indians’ highest run-getter by quite a long margin.

His strike rate if 132.88 is also a testament to his abilities as a powerful hitter of the ball who always gave his team a brisk start whenever he was in the groove.

Jasprit Bumrah

This is a no-brainer, to be frank. A lot was expected from this young and talented bowler after a breakthrough IPL season last year. He then went to fulfill—and perhaps even exceed—expectations with his performances with India in the Asia Cup and then the World T20.

Naturally, then, a lot of eyes were fixated upon him in this year’s IPL as he came off the back of some fine form.

And he continued his fine rise in this tournament as well. He took 15 wickets in 14 games while giving away just a little over 8 runs an over on tracks that are an insult to bowlers. Extremely impressive outing for the youngster.

Krunal Pandya

He was the find of the tournament for Mumbai Indians. When the IPL began, Hardik Pandya was the one who had to endure the heavier weight of expectations from the fans because of his admirable performances for India in the World T20 and Asia Cup.

However, it was the older Pandya that stole all the limelight with his incredible displays with both bat and the ball. He had an impact in almost every game with at least the bat or the ball.

With the bat, he scored 239 runs in 13 games at an average of 39.5. The most impressive part? His strike-rate of 191.13. His stats become more impressive when you add the 6 wickets that he took in 12 games while giving away under 8 runs per over.

Ambati Rayudu

After Rohit Sharma, you don't need to look further to find a consistently good batsman in the Mumbai Indians squad in the form of Ambati Rayudu. And this season was no different as the middle-order batsman provided the team with the spine it needed.

In the 12 matches that he played, he accumulated an impressive 334 runs with an average of 30.36.

Rayudu is an experienced campaigner and he has a calm head above his shoulders. The experience he has gained with the Indian national team has helped him immensely and Mumbai Indians are reaping the benefits.

Mitchell McClenaghan

Mitchell McClenaghan was Mumbai Indians' best bowler in the tournament. The Kiwi pacer’s lethal speed and brutality made it incredibly hard for the batsmen to play him as he ended up being Mumbai Indians’ highest wicket-taker in the tournament.

His knack of picking up wickets at regular intervals made him the kingpin of Indians’ bowling attack. In the 14 games that he played this season, he picked up 17 wickets on Indian pitches that have almost nothing for the bowlers in the first place—an impressive feat in itself.
