The much-awaited ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) started with the “Maharashtra derby” between defending champions, Mumbai Indians and the newcomers, Rising Pune Supergiants. The MS Dhoni-led side emerged victorious after the bowlers put in a dominating performance to hand the defending champions a nine-wicket win.
Ajinkya Rahane played the perfect knock for Pune as he hit a quick fifty to help his side chase down the target of 122 with more than five overs remaining. Such was the bowling performance from the Pune bowlers that Ravichandran Ashwin had to bowl only over during the match.

1 – This is the first time that Mumbai Indians have lost each of their first four batsmen for single digits.

32 – The number of balls taken by Ajinkya Rahane to reach his fifty. This was his fastest fifty in IPL.
40 – Mumbai's score when five wickets were down is their lowest ever in IPL history.
41 – The number of runs scored by Mumbai Indians in the last three overs. In the previous 17 overs, they had scored only 80 runs.
45* – The number of runs scored by Harbhajan Singh is the second highest by a No.8 batsman. The highest is also by Harbhajan Singh when he scored 64 against Kings XI Punjab in 2015.
64 – Rajat Bhatia has picked up the second highest number of wickets in the IPL for an uncapped Indian player. Only Siddharth Trivedi has more with 65 wickets.
100 – This was Vinay Kumar's 100th match in the Indian Premier League.
100 – Ishant Sharma played his 100th T20 match of his career.
300 – Kieron Pollard played his 300th match of his career. This is the highest for any player in T20 history.
2000 – Ambati Rayudu became the third person, after Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma, to score 2000 or more runs for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
