IPL 2016: Royal Challengers Bangalore slash ticket prices at the Chinnaswamy

RCB captain Virat Kohli has been in terrific form this season

In a move to lure more spectators to the ground, the Royal Challengers Bangalore has revised ticket prices in two of their premium stands ahead of their five remaining home games in the IPL 2016. Earlier, RCB’s ticket prices were the highest amongst all the franchises.

According to an RCB spokesperson, tickets in the D-Corporate and Fan Terrace-N stands that earlier cost Rs 6,000-Rs 7,000 will now cost between Rs 2,000 and Rs 4,000 depending on whether they are played on a weekday or a weekend, reports the Times of India.

Also, from now on, D-Corporate will be a non-hospitality stand that will have stalls selling a variety of fast foods and non-alcoholic beverages. The Fan Terrace will continue to be a hospitality stand where unlimited food, beverages and alcohol will be served for the remaining home games, which begin with a match against former champions Kolkata Knight Riders on May 2.

RCB has played two matches at the Chinnaswamy so far. They won against Sunrisers Hyderabad but lost to Delhi Daredevils in their two home games. In those two games, certain sections of the ground saw a very thin crowd. The ground has a capacity of hosting around 32000 spectators.

The cash-rich league, which is into its ninth edition, has seen a dip in its viewership after a hectic cricket season which included the high-voltage ICC T20 World Cup 2016.The high price of the tickets at the Chinnaswamy was also acting as a deterrent for the viewers to come and watch the game.

RCB hasn’t been off to a great start this season as they languish at the 7th spot in the points table. They have played 5 games so far having lost 3 of them.Their bowling has been a major concern for them as it has failed to defend big targets.

Their skipper Virat Kohli, who holds the prestigious orange cap now, scored his maiden IPL century in the last game against the Gujarat Lions. But his century went in vain as the Gujarat team chased the target with the utmost of ease.

The RCB team seriously need a bowler who can win matches for them and recently they have drafted Chris Jordan in their squad as a replacement for the injured Mitchell Starc who has been ruled out of the tournament.
