Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Mumbai after succumbing to their second consecutive loss this season while Mumbai will also be on the same page after losing to a Finch-powered Lions squad on the last ball of their previous game. If one was to find the reasons behind the losses, maybe lady luck would have a major say.

Ahead of the start of VIVO IPL 2016, both Hyderabad and Mumbai were struck major blows with major players missing out due to injuries. Mumbai lost their spearhead pacer Lasith Malinga, while Sunrisers had to start without the services of southpaw Yuvraj Singh and New Zealander Kane Williamson.

To make matters worse, Mumbai lost Lendl Simmons after their first match, while Ashish Nehra pulled up after his first two overs against RCB and missed the Sunrisers’ fixture against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Nonetheless, with Martin Guptill coming in for Lendl Simmons, Mumbai will be looking to play him for his experience and the fantastic form he has struck of late. Sunrisers would be happy to see Eoin Morgan striking form, while Mustafizur Rahman has been phenomenal for them with the ball, picking up wickets and drying the run-flow as and when he comes on to bowl.

After falling short in both their previous encounters, we can expect a few changes in both the squads. Here we try to analyse and predict how the squads would shape up for this important encounter.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Batting Department:

Apart from a belligerent half-century from skipper David Warner against Royal Challengers Bangalore, no other batsman could stand up tall while chasing a mammoth 228. However against Kolkata, the middle-order came good, with Morgan striking a fifty assisted by a well-crafted 37 from wicket-keeper Naman Ojha. The late fireworks have been provided by Ashish Reddy to a certain limit.

The major worry for Sunrisers would be the form of top-order batsmen Shikhar Dhawan and Moises Henriques. While Dhawan has just managed single-digit scores in both matches, Henriques has not had a good run with the bat by any standards. If Sunrisers are to get off to a good start, a lot will depend on Dhawan to complement his skipper at the top.

Bowling Department:

With the exception of Bangladeshi Mustafizur Rahman, none of the other bowlers have stepped up to the cause, being carted all over in the two matches that have gone by thus far. Karn Sharma has had two forgettable matches, while Ashish Nehra’s absence has not helped the Orange Army in any possible way.

With Moises Henriques misfiring with both bat and ball, it will not be surprising if Trent Boult gets a game at his cost to add some experience and teeth to the limping bowling line-up.

Mumbai Indians

Batting Department:

Apart from Rohit Sharma’s blistering half-century and Jos Buttler’s 44 against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians do not have any other innings played by their batsmen to speak high of. Parthiv Patel’s inclusion has proved fruitful, but he has not converted his starts.

The primary woe for Mumbai would be the out of form all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard. While Hardik Pandya’s promotion to number 3 has misfired miserably, Pollard has managed only single-digits in his outings with the bat so far.

However, Mumbai would be overjoyed with the inclusion of aggressive opener Martin Guptill into their squad. With Pollard misfiring, his exclusion from the squad might not have a great effect, considering the fact that he has not rolled his arm over even once during this IPL. Guptill also adds as an extraordinary fielder, which could see him donning Mumbai colours for the first time against Hyderabad.

Bowling Department:

The bowling has had a good foothold in the tournament, with Mitchell McClenaghan leading the pack with his mixed bag of tricks. Harbhajan had an off day against the Gujarat Lions and will be looking to use his wealth of experience against the Sunrisers. Yorker-specialist Jasprit Bumrah has delivered but has been a touch inconsistent.

Krunal Pandya had a wonderful debut against the Lions, ending with figures of 4-0-20-1 while also striking a few lusty blows in the end and in all probability is set to retain his place in the line-up. With Southee going for more than a few runs, it will be interesting to see how the Mumbai Indians draw out their main XI.
