IPL 2016: Stats - David Warner hunts down Gujarat Lions to lead SRH to the final

With a place in the final at stake, Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a massive jolt when Mustafizur Rahman was ruled out due to an injury. As a result, Trent Boult got his first opportunity of the season while Gujarat Lions drafted in chinaman bowler Shivil Kaushik in place of Shadab Jakati.

After the Lions found themselves tottering at 19/2, their much-maligned middle-order chipped in with useful contributions and ensured that they reached a competitive total on a sporting surface.

Notwithstanding the regular fall of wickets at the other end, Warner led the pursuit from the front. Ably assisted by all-rounder Bipul Sharma, the Sunrisers skipper timed the chase to perfection and took his side into the final with an unbeaten 93.

5 – Total wickets picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad spinners in this year’s IPL. In a sharp difference, their quick bowlers have managed a combined tally of 78 scalps.

5 – Number of batsmen for the Lions who have topped 300 runs in this IPL. It is the most among all teams with 3 batsmen each from RCB and KKR coming second.

8 – Fifty-plus scores for Warner which is the joint second most in an IPL season alongside Chris Gayle (2012). Kohli is on top of the list with ten such scores, this year.

9 – Wickets taken by Bhuvneshwar Kumar from all final overs in this IPL. The 26-year old’s performance is the best among all bowlers in the 20th over.

18 – Total runs from opening partnerships for the Lions in the last five matches. Needless to say, the experiment in promoting Eklavya Dwivedi to the top of the order did not work out well.

20 – Games missed by Boult before finally stepping onto the field. The left-arm seamer did not feature in five World T20 matches as well as 15 contests for his IPL side.

41 – Collective runs managed by the Sunrisers top seven aside from Warner. The pugnacious opener scored more than twice that of his other specialist batsmen put together.

61 – Consecutive innings in the shortest format for Shikhar Dhawan without being dismissed for a duck. His previous blob came in the 2014 World T20 against West Indies.

700 – Warner became just the fourth batsmen to breach the 700 run-mark in an IPL edition. Gayle has done it twice while Michael Hussey and Kohli have achieved the feat once.
