Surprisingly, this was the first match-up between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Daredevils in this season. While David Warner and his men were poised for a top-two spot, Delhi needed a victory to prevent last-minute nerves.

However, they were dealt a massive blow when talismanic leader Zaheer Khan was sidelined with injury. When it seemed like the Hyderabad top-order was taking the match away from them, the Daredevils spinners prised out key wickets to ensure that their batsmen were not chasing too many.

Quinton de Kock set the chase rolling by counter-attacking the venomous new-ball attack of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ashish Nehra. Despite falling to an umpiring error, the 23-year old left-hander had laid the platform for a thumping win.

Let us take a look at the most important statistics from the high-stakes clash.

2 – Batsmen who have crossed the 500-run mark in three consecutive IPL seasons. Warner’s insatiable appetite for runs allowed him to join RCB star Chris Gayle.

2 – Instances when batsmen have been dismissed hit-wicket in this IPL. Deepak Hooda joined teammate Yuvraj Singh in this weird mode of dismissal which was not seen in the previous three seasons.

3 – Matches won by Sunrisers when defending a target in this IPL, with as many losses. It is impressive when considering that this edition has been favorable to chasing teams.

3 – Fifty-plus partnerships for the fourth wicket by Delhi batsmen in this IPL which is the most among all teams.

5 – Opening combinations tried by Delhi Daredevils in this IPL which is the highest for any team. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knightriders have changed their opening pair only once.

6 – Number of times when chasing teams have prevailed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in this IPL. Only SRH have successfully defended a total at this venue.

8 – Number of batsmen to score 3000 IPL runs. Warner became just the second overseas cricketer to reach the landmark and the eighth batsman overall.

15 – Balls in which Sunrisers lost the wickets of Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj and Moises Henriques. From 98/1, they found themselves in a spot of bother at 114/4.

16 – Players used by the Sunrisers in this IPL which is the lowest amongst all teams. With a settled unit, it is no coincidence that they are sitting pretty at the top of the table.

38 – Collective runs conceded by Amit Mishra and Chris Morris from seven overs between them, apart from accounting for three wickets.

66 – Runs scored by SRH in the last ten overs with the loss of seven wickets. On the contrary, they had reached a strong position of 80/1 from the first half of their innings.

101 – Combined runs from the Power play in this match. While SRH made 51, DD added 50 from the first six overs making it the most in the season at this venue.

202 – Fours hit by Warner in the first six overs of an innings in IPL. He joined the former Indian opening duo of Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag in achieving this feat.

302 – Fours registered by Warner in the IPL. He became only the eighth overall batsman to smash more than 300 fours across all seasons.
