Kolkata Knight Riders sealed their fourth win of the season as they beat Rising Pune Supergiants by 2 wickets in a thriller at Pune. With this win, Kolkata have moved to the top of the 2016 IPL table.
Choosing to bowl first, the visitors struck early as they dismissed Faf du Plessis early on in the innings and dented Pune’s hopes of putting on a huge total on the board. Ajinkya Rahane scored his second consecutive fifty and some late blitz from MS Dhoni helped the hosts to put on 160 on the board.
While chasing 161, Kolkata were off to a terrible start as they lost Robin Uthappa off the very first ball and skipper Gautam Gambhir followed him soon after. But Mumbai batsman Suryakumar Yadav walked in at number 3 in the absence of Manish Pandey and maintained a calm head and took his team out of the crisis.
Suryakumar scored his first IPL fifty and made sure that his team are set for the victory before getting out.
