Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Point of View:
Positives:
The Sunrisers will feel like they have an advantage over the Lions as they played on the Kotla wicket against the Knight Riders in the Eliminator, knowing the wicket will help to choose the players who are best suited on the wicket.
Yuvraj Singh and Moises Henriques contributed generously for the Sunrisers in the middle order and rested fears of a batting collapse after the departure of skipper David Warner. Yuvraj, in particular, struck a few lusty blows and looked at his best before being dismissed for 44 runs from 30 deliveries.
It has to be mentioned that the Sunrisers bowlers bowled beautifully to restrict the Knight Riders to just 140. Barinder Sran set the tone for the match, dismissing the dangerous Uthappa in the second over. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar was at his economical best and also picked up 3 wickets, including that of Manish Pandey.
Moises Enriques picked up the Man of the Match Award for his all-round performance. In addition to scoring 31 runs, Enriques picked up a couple of wickets and conceded just 17 runs in the 3 overs that he bowled.
Negatives:
Although the Sunrisers batsmen got a few starts, none of them to carried on to score big runs for the team. The roles of players should be defined clearly to avoid catastrophes in the second qualifier.
Gujarat Lions Point of View:
Positives:
The Lions were 3 wickets down for just 9 runs and it took a remarkable effort from Dwayne Smith to get them to a decent total of 158 on the Bangalore wicket. This will boost the team as they rose from a horror start and reached a position from which they could have won the game. The Lions will hope for a good contribution from the top order and set the stage for someone like Bravo and Smith to cut loose in the death overs.
In the bowling department, Dhawal Kulkarni stole the show as he ran through the top order of the mighty Challengers. Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Sachin Baby fell victims to Kulkarni’s impressive bowling. The Lions will hope that the other bowlers also contribute for the game against the Sunrisers.
Negatives:
The top order of the Lions batting department showed no resistance as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Aaron Finch has been in a poor form after his comeback from injury. The Lions will have to consider switching Smith with Finch and hope they get off to a good start, letting Finch take his time in the middle order.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad will start as favorites against the Lions for a number of reasons mentioned above and the Lions will hope that their players can perform to their full potential to match the Sunrisers in every department.
