IPL 6: Match 37 - MI vs RCB - A statistical preview

Mumbai Indians cricketer Harbhajan Singh

The two heavyweights of IPL, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, have won six matches apiece in the 12 matches they faced each other. And the remarkable thing is both teams have got the better of one another at least once in the league phase in each of the past five seasons.

Lasith Malinga is currently the joint-highest wicket-taker in the IPL along with Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Amit Mishra, having taken 88 wickets each.

Royal Challengers have slight edge playing at Wankhede. In the three games featuring RCB, they have won two and lost one.

Lasith Malinga also features on our second stat of the day as he has bowled the most balls at the mercurial Jamaican, Chris Gayle, in the IPL without being hit for six; to be precise, he has bowled 39 deliveries and has conceded only 36 runs to Gayle in those deliveries.

Mumbai Indians seems to do much better when batting first this season; three of the four wins have come batting first.

What’s next in store for teams: Both the teams will next take field on the same day, April 29. While the Mumbai Indians entertain Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore will fly to pink city Jaipur where they face the Rajasthan Royals.
