ISIS had planned attack on Australia if they had toured Bangladesh, reports

England’s tour to Bangladesh is reportedly again under review after details emerged of an alleged ISIS plot to attack Australian players last year if they had toured Bangladesh.Cricket Australia had no choice but to pull out of the Bangladesh cricket tour last year after receiving reports of a security threat in the country.The details of the security threat remained undisclosed.

But, The Daily Mail is now writing off the threat which claimed that the Australian government had known of an ISIS plot to attack the Australian team in a reception where Bangladesh cricketers were invited too.

However, CA has stuck to its claims that the threat was made against the Australians living or traveling to Bangladesh and not the Australian cricket team. It is also understood that the players would not have attended the reception which is in question here.

CA were quick to refrain their players from going on the tour and after a few days, terrorists attacked a café in Dhaka and killed around 20 people including Italian tourists. “We stand by our decision to postpone tours to Bangladesh due to serious concerns about the safety and security of the Australian team and officials,” said a CA spokesperson.

“We will continue to monitor advice from ASIO, DFAT and our own security advisors about the security risk for any future tours of the Australian team in Bangladesh and make a decision based on this advice closer to any potential tour.”

Speaking to Daily Mail, former Bangladesh Cricket head of performance Mal Loye has said he stepped down from his post after learning about the planned terrorist attacks against the Australians there.“The week I left, the Australian team didn’t turn up because the terrorists had planned to take us out when we had an event sorted with the touring team,” Loye said.

“My boss’s wife was arranging the event with the Australians. The Australian Government saw the plans from the underworld guys about what was going to happen. The plans didn’t work out for the terrorists because the Australian team didn’t arrive there.

“The Italians got shot that week. The terrorists obviously thought they’d take a few people out while they were there. That was enough for me. I knew after the shootings that my freedom as a westerner had gone.”The England and Wales Cricket Board officials last week expressed their satisfaction with the security arrangements but a lot of players are still unwilling to make the trip.
