Jagmohan Dalmiya, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), suffered a massive heart attack earlier today in Kolkata. The 75-year-old has been admitted to the BM Birla Heart Institute where an angioplasty is underway if latest reports are to be believed.

There have been health concerns over Dalmiya, who replaced N Srinivasan as board president earlier this year, in the recent weeks with reports that he is suffering from electrolyte imbalance, which results in sudden memory loss. ABP News had reported that when the Indian squad for a recent tour was presented to Dalmiya, he asked: "Why has Sachin Tendulkar not been included in the squad.”

He has also been absent from the office over the past few weeks and there were reports that the BCCI hierarchy were forging steps to bring a premature end to Dalmiya’s tenure which is set to run until 2017.

Today’s events have however come as a shock to everyone involved.
