James Vince is an exciting young prospect for England

James Vince, who is England’s leading run scorer in the ongoing T20 series against Pakistan in the UAE has admitted that he is “enjoying” the chance to play for the national team, reports ECB.

England, who have already won the T20 series by winning first two matches, have given chances to some new players to showcase their skills in the T20 series ahead of the T20 World Cup in March.

Vince, who made his debut in the washed out game against Ireland last May said: “I was included in the squad last summer, but didn't get the chance to play. So it’s nice to come out here and get an opportunity – (and) I’m enjoying every minute of it.“

England had not included both their star performers Jos Buttler and Joe Root in the first T20 match and Vince has praised the team management for giving the younger players a chance.

Vince said: “They said at the start I’d get an opportunity to show what I can do. I'm thankful for that ... leaving Jos (Buttler) and Rooty (Joe Root) out in the first game to give me and (Sam) Billings a go was nice to see, and Sam's done really well as well.”

Vince, who has scored 41 and 38 runs, said he has been satisfied with his performance. “It's been a steady start. It would have been nice to go on and get a bigger score in one of the games, but I would definitely have taken it at the start of the series.“

The 24-year-old admitted that he was nervous prior to the start of the first T20. “I was nervous walking out that first game, in front of a full stadium, but I settled down after a couple of balls and eased into it nicely.”

Vince will remain in the Middle East to captain England Lions in a five-match T20 series versus Pakistan A after this T20 series against Pakistan. That will provide him with another opportunity to prove his worth to the side ahead of the 2016 World Twenty20.

"That will be another tough series," he said. "I get the chance to captain the Lions, so it will be another good experience.”

When asked about his desire to represent England in all three formats of the game, he said: “I’d love to play all formats. My first chance has come in Twenty20. (But) I hope I can push on, find my way into the 50-over side and the Test side as well.”
