Jesse Ryder signs for Big Bash team Melbourne Renegades

Jesse Ryder of New Zealand joins Melbourne Renegades

New Zealand’s Jesse Ryder who is on exile from international cricket at the moment has signed for Melbourne Renegades in Australia’s Big Bash League. The 29-year-old Ryder thanked the Otago cricket board for helping with the no objection certificate from New Zealand Cricket.

Ryder, who is in England playing for Essex in the county championship said: "Respect and appreciation to Otago cricket for their flexibility. I'm stoked and grateful to be taking part in one of the best T20 competitions in the world. The Renegades have some class players so I'm looking forward to contributing."

"He had no hesitation in nominating Jesse as a 'must have' for the Renegades and we're delighted to welcome him to the Renegades this summer. We have a lot of faith in Jesse and I'm sure he'll quickly become a favourite with his big hitting in BBL 04,” said Simon Helmot, Renegades coach. The coach mentioned their director of cricket Tom Moody as the important man behind Ryder’s inclusion.

The 29-year-old is expected to be joining the team in mid-January for four matches and also for the knockouts.

The left-hander has not been considered for New Zealand selection after he was found to be in a bar late-night with Doug Bracewell on the eve of a Test match which they were to be a part off. Bruce Edgar, New Zealand’s chief selector had mentioned "character is really important as part of our selection process" and the controversial opener has not represented the Kiwis since.

Ryder recently picked two five wicket hauls in a match for Essex ending with a match haul of 10 for 110.
