KKR spinner Sunil Narine has been reported for suspected illegal bowling action

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) off-spinner Sunil Narine has been reported for suspected illegal bowling action in the ongoing Champions League T20 after KKR’s match against Dolphins tonight in Hyderabad.

Reported for quicker ball

It is the quicker ball bowled by Narine which has come under suspicion in the report submitted by on-field umpires Anil Chaudhary and Chettithody Shamshuddin, along with third umpire Kumar Dharmasena after the completion of the match.

Under CLT20 guidelines, Narine can continue to bowl in the future matches in this tournament, but has been placed on the warning list. If his action is reported again while being on the warning list, he will be suspended, which will mean that though he can be selected for the team in future, he will not be allowed to bowl for the rest of the matches in this tournament.

Also, if suspended, he will not be allowed to bowl in any future matches organised by BCCI (read IPL) until he gets his action cleared.

As per the CLT20 Suspected Illegal Bowling Action policy, Narine can request for an official assessment to be done by BCCI Suspect Bowling Action Committee.

Being reported in CLT20 has no effect on the bowler’s international career.

Narine is the fourth bowler after Adnan Rasool (Lahore Lions), Mohammad Hafeez (Lahore Lions) and Prenelan Subrayen (Dolphins) to be reported for suspected illegal bowling action.

Record-breaking Narine

The 26-year-old has been in red hot form for KKR this season, having picked 11 wickets in 4 matches at an economy rate of just 5.13. He’s the highest wicket-taker in T20s in 2014, with 65 wickets in all matches. It is also the highest number of wickets taken by a bowler in a calendar year, breaking Lasith Malinga’s previous record of 63 wickets in 2012.

With 38 wickets to his name, Narine is also the highest wicket-taker in CLT20 history.

Against Dolphins tonight, he finished with figures of 4/33 in 4 overs, as KKR completed a 36-run win, their 13th on the trot.
