In what would be a clash of the heavyweights, Kolkata Knight Riders will play host to Royal Challengers in the 48th match of the IPL. Both teams possess star-studded line-ups. While KKR is sitting pretty at number two spot on the points table, RCB is languishing at number 6. RCB need to win all their remaining matches to stand a chance to finish in the top four. KKR have 3 games in hand and are almost guaranteed a place in the top four. They must be looking to finish in the top two to get an extra chance to make it to the final.

KKR had emerged victorious in the last game involving the two teams. Despite scoring a massive score of 185, RCB couldn’t defend it and KKR chased the total comfortably with 3 balls to spare. Yusuf Pathan was explosive as he hit 60 runs off only 29 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Andre Russell for his brilliant all-round performance won the man of the match award.

RCB had a record breaking win in the last match against GL. They amassed a humungous score of 248 in their 20 overs. Kohli and de Villiers both scored wonderful centuries. It was the first occasion in T20 cricket that two batsmen scored centuries in the same innings. The duo had a colossal partnership of 229 runs, the highest for any wicket in all T20 cricket.

Plenty of records were broken in that game. Kohli notched up his 3rd ton in this season’s IPL and also surpassed Uthappa for most runs in a single season. The bowlers were not delivering for them up till that stage, so the batsmen raised their game even further. It was a delight for cricket fans to see two of the best batsmen in the world batting together like that.

The most pleasing thing for them though was the contribution of the bowlers. Never had they bowled like that in the tournament till then. They dismissed a strong batting line-up

of GL for 104 in the 19th over and recorded the biggest victory ever in the IPL by the margin of runs.

KKR, on the other hand, had a commanding win over RPS. The rain curtailed match gave them a revised target of 66 in 9 overs by Duckworth-Lewis method. They got the required runs in just 5 overs thanks to the destructive innings of Yusuf Pathan.

Before the rain interrupted, the bowlers had done a great job and had RPS suffering at 103/6 in the 18th over. Piyush Chawla was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed figures of 21/2 in his 4 overs. Due to this, the batsmen were given an easy target to chase down.

Perhaps, KKR are the most settled side in the league having the perfect balance between bat and bowl. They are excellent in batting second and chasing totals down. With the kind of form they are in, they are certainly the favourites to become the IPL champions for the third time.
