Lalit Modi set to Indian cricket retrun as Rajasthan Board President

Lalit Kumar Modi is set to return as the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) President as per sources. The former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner was suspended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for financial irregularities in 2013. Modi will enjoy numerical superiority in the 33-member RCA after a rival faction withdrew its no-confidence motion against him and his team on Tuesday.

Power grapple in Rajasthan cricket has seen some dramatic twists and turns in the last two years. Nine months ago, BJP leader and RCA vice-president Amin Pathan served a no-confidence motion against Modi and his faction. At that time Pathan was serving as the ‘acting’ RCA president. He has now made a U-turn in front of a retired judge to pave the way for Modi’s return.

In an interview Pathan said that his action was in the interest of cricket in Rajasthan. But he has also hinted at political pressure. Reportedly, a understanding was reached between Pathan and Modi following which the latter proved its numerical superiority to retired judge Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra on Tuesday

Modi's return will surely not amuse the BCCI. The Board led by former President N. Srinivasan had suspended Rajasthan for electing the banned Modi as its leader. Modi promptly went to court and continues to fight the BCCI.

After getting the numerical superiority an ecstatic Lalit Modi tweeted
