MI after a crushing defeat against SRH recovered well to win against RCB in Bangalore. The best thing that happened to them in that game has they chased down a target successfully with Rohit not playing a huge part. Earlier he had been solely responsible for all the successful.
Kieron Pollard and Jos Buttler ended the chase with a destructive partnership. Both the batsmen were hitting sixes at will and finally, they did what is expected of them. At one stage, the equation had become difficult, but they batted at the rate of knots and brought the team home with 8 balls to spare. Ambati Rayudu was the other bright spark for them. He will be pivotal for MI .
The bowling was terrific too. Krunal Pandya went for just 15 runs off his 4 overs against the likes of Kohli and de Villiers and succeeded in dismissing the latter. Mitchell McClenaghan became the leading wicket taker yet again and got back the purple cap. The presence of Bumrah and Southee is filling up for the absence of Lasith Malinga. The experienced Harbhajan is also beginning to gain form.
On the other end, KXIP lost the last game against RCB by just one run. Their batting vows continued in the tournament. Murali Vijay played a sublime innings of 89 off 57 balls but failed to finish the game off. It was not the first time they lost a close game this year. If only the premier had contributed earlier, the equation could have been completely different for them.
The batting stars from previous seasons Glenn Maxwell and David Miller have had forgettable outings this time around. The highest score for Miller has been 31 so far. Maxwell has scored two half-centuries but failed miserably on other occasions. The team needed a lot more from them from very early days.
Their death bowlers have impressed one and all, though. Sandeep Sharma and Mohit Sharma have bowled immaculate yorkers. The back of the hand slower balls from Mohit have been hugely deceptive. Certainly both have developed themselves into specialist T20 bowlers.
The situation for KXIP is not looking hugely impressive at this stage. They are almost out of contention for the playoff spot. MI have a good chance to qualify. Where they would be looking to win all the remaining matches from here, KXIP can spoil the party for MI with a win.
