Michael Clarke injures his hamstring in the ongoing 1st ODI against South Africa

Michael Clarke will take no further part in his side’s One-day International (ODI) game versus South Africa at the WACA ground on Friday, after having problems with his hamstring while batting in the first innings. He was dismissed for 11 off 20 balls by Dale Steyn.

Peter Bruckner, the doctor for Cricket Australia (CA), confirmed the news and also said that the 33-year-old will undergo a scan on Saturday.

"Michael Clarke has re-injured his hamstring and will take no further part in today's match”. Bruckner said.

Bailey to lead in Clarke’s absence

In Clarke’s absence, George Bailey will lead Australia, when they come out to bowl in the second innings. Wicket-keeper batsman Brad Haddin, meanwhile, has been ruled out of the five-match ODI series vs South Africa, due to an injured shoulder.

With only 20 days left for the start of the first Test against India at Brisbane, it certainly looks like it is going to be a race against time for the duo to be fully fit for the opening game on December 4th.

This is the second time this year that Clarke has faced hamstring issues. He was forced to retire hurt during Australia’s game against Zimbabwe in the tri-nation tournament in August of this year.
