Misbah-ul-Haq helps raise Rs 3 Lakhs for fan's medical treatment

Misbah-ul-Haq’s days as a cricketer might soon be coming to an end with the Pakistan Test skipper contemplating retirement from the game on a number of occasions, more recently ahead of departing for the tour to England earlier this year.

He changed his mind of course and is now busy preparing to lead his team against Australia in a three-match Test series which also includes Pakistan's first ever day-night Test match.

Having been the subject of much criticism throughout his career, with question marks often being raised about his style of captaincy and slow batting, the cricket fans of Pakistan seem to have finally come to accept Misbah’s importance to the team and are now urging him to stay on at the helm of the Test side. The influence that Misbah exerts over the team is for all to see and he commands respect from his peers in a manner very few others could when it comes to the volatile nature of Pakistan cricket.

Misbah has been using that influence not just on the field but off the field as well with people looking up to the 42-year-old as someone who plays with the heart on his sleeve. Misbah has proved that he is one with a good heart and it was evident once again with reports indicating how he had helped raised a sum of Rs 3 Lakhs for aiding the medical treatment of his 16-year-old fan named Rohaan.

Misbah came to know about the teenage boy through his mentor Tahir Shah and first met his die-hard fan during the 2015 World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand, following which he announced his retirement from ODI cricket. Having already pledged about half of the required funds, Misbah didn’t hesitate in helping out a second time around as well when he became aware of the requirement of funds to perform the surgery

Misbah raised around Rs 3 Lakh by putting up for auction his shirt and bat, thus further enhancing his reputation as one of the nicest guys in cricket. Following the Test series against England which ended 2-2, Misbah had also flown to Norway to take part in a charity match in which he created a record of sorts scoring a 34-ball century.

With the Test series just around the corner, Misbah didn’t get time to personally meet Rohaan once again before departing for the tour but ensured that the required amount of money as well as his wishes reached his fan in time.
