After Pakistan’s exit from the ICC World T20 after the Super 10 stage, captain Mohammad Hafeez has resigned from the post of captaincy of the Pakistan T20I team. There were rumours earlier in the day that Hafeez would be relieved off his duties, but it looks like he himself has decided to vacate the post.

A handy cricketer with both bat and ball, Hafeez was appointed the captain of the T20 side back in May 2012. During his spell as captain, the man known as “The Professor” secured the most wins by any Pakistan captains in T20Is.

It’ll be interesting to see if the PCB fall back on an experienced head like Shahid Afridi or Saaed Ajmal to succeed Hafeez as Pakistan’s T20 skipper, or will they look at younger players like Ahmed Shehzad to usher in a new era of Pakistan cricket.

Hafeez is also Pakistan’s vice-captain in the ODI and Test formats, and there has been nothing to indicate so far that he will give up those roles.
