After having an interim selection panel for 10 months, PCB has finally identified Moin Khan as the chief selector and manager of the Pakistan national cricket team. Moin is a former Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper. Prior to this announcement, Moin had been Pakistan’s head coach till the recent World T20.

The post in the full time selection committee had been unoccupied due to Iqbal Qasim’s refusal to renew his contract. Zaheer Abbas had been chosen as chief advisor to PCB chairman, Najam Sethi. Moin Khan has been Sethi’s option for numerable positions in the PCB framework. However, last year, Moin could not rise up to the position of chief selector due to conclusions reached by the Islamabad High Court.

The PCB had been operating under a temporary body for a major part of 2013 after the court expelled Ashraf as board chairman in May. Zaka Ashraf was restored by the court as PCB chief in January but was abandoned by Pakistan Prime Minister.

The temporary selection committee comprising of Azhar Khan, Saleem Jaffar and Farukh Zaman have been selecting teams since July.

The post of chief selector has had a great deal of changes in the past. Aamer Sohail was appointed and removed within a week by Ashraf and Sethi respectively. Mohammad Ilyas was also reckoned for the head of selection committee but later was confined to the junior selection committee.

Rashid Latif also failed to secure the post as he declined to sign the contract due to dispute with the PCB.
