MS Dhoni disappointed with Indian bowling performance

New Zealand v India

Indian skipper MS Dhoni

Indian skipper MS Dhoni was full of praise for the New Zealand bowlers at the post-match presentation of the 4th ODI between New Zealand and India that India lost by 7 wickets.

Speaking after the loss at Hamilton, he said: “We struggled in this game but I think their bowlers did very well. They bowled in the right areas and forced our batsmen to play shots.”

This loss means that New Zealand have now gained an unassailable 3-0 lead and hence, have won the 5-match ODI series. Dhoni expressed his disappointment following yet another lacklustre performance from the fast bowlers, who consistenly provided the Kiwi batsman with room to free their arms, and reserved praise for the Indian spin-duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

He said: “Frankly, it was a disappointing performance. It was a wicket where you needed to be disciplined and our fast bowlers consistently bowled short and wide, allowing them to score easily. Spinners bowled well in the middle but the fast bowlers gave too many runs away.”

Dhoni, commenting on the fabled Indian batting line-up that has failed to live up to its expectations in recent times, rued the inability of the batsmen to convert the starts into big scores.

Dhoni said: “Batting is our strength but we haven’t got going. Most of our batsmen got starts but failed to convert them into big scores.”

When asked about his approach for the rest of the series, Dhoni said he would like to take it one game at a time.

He concluded by saying, “We will look to take it one game at a time.”
