Mahendra Singh Dhoni was full of admiration for his team’s brilliant performance against Delhi Daredevils on Monday at Abu Dhabi. Chennai Super Kings squashed Delhi Daredevils by 93 runs to register their first victory in IPL7. Suresh Raina’s half century, Dhoni’s power hits and trained bowling and fielding efforts helped Chennai put up a tough total of 177.

In the post match presentation, Dhoni repeated his favourite statement, “Catches win matches and it was proved today. This was a perfect game for us.”

“There was a bit of help for the fast bowlers. Seven batsmen should be good enough in a T20 match. We had a day off and fielding is something we always emphasise on and it can be a benchmark for forthcoming games,” he added.

On the other hand, Daredevils’ captain, Dinesh Karthik was disappointed as he felt that the target was achievable. He also expressed sorrow for Nathan Counter-Nile’s injury.

“Coulter-Nile will be out for some time as he pulled his hamstring. To have lost him that early was a blow for us. But the target would have been gettable if we batted better,” he said.

Raina, however proved to be the superstar of the match by striking 56 runs off 41 balls. As always, he was active on the field as well. He held three catches and was named “Man of the Match’. “We bowled really well. We won the match because of our fielding. The pitch was doing something. The new ball does do more under lights,” he said.

Young talent like Ishwar Pandey who picked up 2 wickets for 23 runs in his debut match also got praised. Raina said, “I think Ishwar Pandey won us the game today.”
