The latest hit in the Indian box office, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, has been going strong across the country. The biopic on the captain of Indian cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has Sushant Singh Rajput playing the lead role.
At the end of day 4, the collection of the movie is reported to be Rs. 74.51 crore. The movie passed the crucial Monday test by earning Rs. 8.51 crore. This may seem as a drop in the collection given that the movie went on to collect Rs. 21.30 crore on Friday, Rs. 20.60 crore on Saturday and Rs. 24.10 crore on Sunday.
MS Dhoni: The Untold Story became only the fifth Bollywood movie released in 2016 to open in excess of Rs. 50 crore at the opening weekend. Sultan, Housefull 3, Fan and Rustom were the other four to achieve this feat.
The movie looks to continue its strong run as people across the country are thronging theaters to get a glimpse of the journey of the World Cup winning captain. The movie has lived up to its expectations and tells the tale of Dhoni’s rise to the top of the cricketing world from obscurity.
With several box office records being broken, it needs to be seen if the movie can cross the 100 crore mark in its first week itself.
The movie is a treat to all Dhoni and Indian cricket fans as it talks about the struggle that the man had to go through in order to be the champion that he is today. While the cricketing part of how he achieved his fame is familiar to many, the film reveals several details about his personal life.
The film also describes the role of women in Dhoni's life in detail, leading to a heart warming climax which features the Indian captain walking out to bat in the ICC World Cup 2011 final at Wankhede Stadium. The fans get to relive the 2011 World Cup-winning moment through an entirely different platform.
The movie that hit the screens on Friday, has gained positive reviews from critics and viewers so far. In fact, Dhoni had earlier said that he was stunned by Sushant's ability to pull off the role.
