Mukul Mudgal panel not travelling to England: BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed in its latest press release that the Mudgal IPL Probe Committee won’t be travelling to England to enquire Indian players who are alleged to have been involved in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. It further denied any interactions of the panel with N Srinivasan or his son-in-law and former CSK team principal Gurunath Meiyappan.

The statement read:

“The Committee on 15-16 August 2014 met at Chennai and interacted with its investigative team and other investigative authorities. The Committee would like to clarify that neither the Committee nor its members interacted with Mr. Srinivasan or Mr. Meiyappan on the 15-16 August 2014 in Chennai or at any other time during the second leg of its investigation ordered by the Hon’ble Supreme Court on 16.5.2014.

The Committee or any of its members also have no intention of travelling outside the country for any interaction with the players, contrary to some speculations in the media. The Committee is fully alive of the fact that any interaction with the players during a series may disturb their poise and concentration.”

Deadline extension

Further reports claim that there are more cricketers to be investigated after a bookie group let out a few names.

"There are more players under the radar and are likely to be questioned in the next few days. These names are of the players which came up after the interrogation of a group of bookies," claimed sources.

It is now clear that the panel will only question the cricketers who are currently in England for the upcoming ODI series after their arrival in India. Since August 31 is the original deadline for submitting the final report, the committee could request an extension to the cut off.

An interim report is expected to be filed on August 27 to the Supreme Court of India by the panel along with a request for an additional period to complete the probe.
