Murali Vijay fined 25% match fees for sporting two logos on bat

Murali Vijay batting for India in the one-off Test against Bangladesh

Murali Vijay was fined 25% of his fees for the Test against Bangladesh by the ICC for flouting logo regulations on his bat. Vijay’s bat sports an SS logo but there is also a small MVJ8 logo beneath it. The smaller logo at the bottom is what the ICC held him guilty for.

“According to the new ICC rules, length of the sponsors’ logo can’t be more than nine inches. But it was found that Vijay’s bat flouted the rule,” said an Indian team official.

Interestingly, Vijay’s Twitter handle is called @mvj888 while his Instagram account is MVJ8. He had sported both the logos on his bat in the 2014/15 Australia tour as well, but had not been charged on that occasion.

“Vijay was told that his bat didn’t conform to ICC rules and was penalised 25% of his match fees. He accepted the decision,” said the official.

Led by captain MS Dhoni, seven ODI players — Suresh Raina, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Ambati Rayudu, Dhawal Kulkarni, Stuart Binny and Mohit Sharma – landed in Bangladesh for the ODI series on Monday evening. Ajinkya Rahane was the only representative from the Test side to greet the ODI contingent at the airport.
