Mushfiqur Rahim has been sacked as ODI captain

Following a string of disappointing losses, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to relieve Mushfiqur Rahim from ODI captaincy, retaining him as their leader for the longer formats.

Injury prone seamer Masrafe Mortaza, who previously lead Bangladesh in 2010 was appointed as captain for one-dayers. The announcement has come ahead of the Asian side’s upcoming series against Zimbabwe at home starting next month.

Zimbabwe will be in the country to play 3 Tests and 5 ODI matches. Notably, Bangladesh failed to win any of the 13 ODI matches this year. Shakib Al Hasan will be the vice-captian for the limited over matches while opener Tamim Iqbal will be Rahim’s understudy in Tests.

The first Test is scheduled for October 25-29 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. The second Test will be played between November 3-7 at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, Khulna. The final Test will be at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong between November 12-16.

The first two ODIs will be completed in Chittagong before the teams move to Mirpur for the remaining three matches. The ODI series will be played between November 21 to December 1.
